A review on "A Collaborative Writing Approach: Methodology and Student Assessment" written by Christopher Mulligas and Russell Garofalo

An article written by Christopher Mulligas and Russell Garofalo shows me that collaborative writing is effective way to teach writing not only because of the writing improvements that  the students can experience but also their better psichological condition after having collaborative writing activities.

Collaborative writing is a teaching writing method in which the procedures or steps in the process of writing are designed for collaborative work. Collaborative writing process have numerous effective benefits for learner for both their language competence and their psychological aspects. Therefore, to make it successfully help EFL students to have good writing, a set of teaching procedures dealing with the writing process must be applied. Mulligas and Garofalo proposes some steps and factors should be considered in the writing process. The first step is choosing partners which can be done based on the teacher’s consideration the students’ willing. secondly, the students brainstormed ideas in pairs about topic, structure and the genre of the text. Next, they conduct a research and gather information to support thier writing. The students try to make outline, and start to draft their writing based on the information they have got. in this stage, the teacher should actively assists them in expressing their ideas into written form. the next step is the teacher correct and try to give comments on students' draft.  then, the students correct their draft based on the teachers' comments and suggestion. after they finished their work, the last step to do is each member of pairs correct their work.
