A review on "The Effect of Collaborative Writing Activity using Google Docs on Students’ Writing Abilities" written by Ornprapat Suwantarathip and Saovapa Wichadee

Recently, collaborative writing is considered as one of effective ways to teach writing and to promote students to have good writing skill. In Indonesia itself, the implementation of collaborative writing to teach writing is raising for intermediate level and advanced level students. However, there is an obstacle in implementing collaborative writing dealing with the limitation of place and time. Therefore, Suwantatri and Wichadee conducted a study to make collaborative writing implementation more effective and efficient. They found that by using online open discussion, for example Google Docs, it can solve the problem of limited time and place. Students can participate in collaborative writing whenever and wherever they are. Compared to face-to- collaborative writing, the use of Google Docs in collaborative writing can improve students’ writing skill better because they can have opportunities to read, review, and correct others’ work that. Besides, students can gain knowledge the different version of writing and constructive feedback they got from the readers. Therefore, it is good for both lecturer and teacher to use any online discussion to improve the students’ writing skill.
